Mullvad VPN for PC and Mac: 2020 Review

Rate this post

Mullvad is one of the leading providers in the VPN industry. The service offers fast and secure connections and is an excellent option for bypassing internet restrictions as well. It is compatible with multiple platforms, including Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android.

In this Mullvad review, I’ll take you through the VPN service, its features, and its benefits.

Ready? Okay, let’s dive in!

What is the Privacy Policy?

Privacy is a crucial aspect if you are looking to stay anonymous when online. Mullvad provides a no-logs service, which means they do not keep your activity or connections data.

In their privacy policy, they state the following:

“The underlying policy of Mullvad is that we never store any activity logs of any kind. We strongly believe in having a minimal data retention policy because we want you to remain anonymous.”

Again, the provider uses Numbered Accounts, and you do not need to provide your name or email address when registering. Mullvad also supports Bitcoin payments, which further enhances your privacy.

What’s the Security like?

Protocols & Encryption

Mullvad offers two tunneling protocols: WireGuard and OpenVPN. WireGuard is a new cutting-edge VPN protocol that promises the fastest encrypted connections anywhere. OpenVPN, on the other hand, is great for security and a better option for bypassing VPN blocks like the Great Firewall of China.

It also comes with an internet killswitch and automatic startup, both of which help prevent Ip leaks.

What’s the Global Server Coverage?

This VPN also provides access to 545 servers in 59 cities and 35 countries around the world. Covered regions include the Americas, Europe, Asia, Oceania, and the Middle East. While the server list isn’t that extensive, I was pleased with the global distribution.

What are the Main Features?

  • Fast connection speeds
  • Robust encryption
  • Global server coverage
  • No-logs policy
  • User-friendly apps

Installing on Windows 10 PCs and Mac Computers?

This new VPN also has apps for all the primary platforms – Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS. Among these, I was rather impressed by the Android app’s sleek and intuitive design. Also, the Android app supports the super-fast WireGuard protocol by default, which is incredible.

Luckily, you don’t necessarily need to access the internet on your smartphone to use the Android app. With Bluestacks easy-to-use Android emulator, you can easily install the app on your Mac or Windows PC.

Here is the quick step by step guide:

  • Step 2: Run the setup wizard to install the file you’ve just downloaded.
  • Step 3: After installation, launch the Bluestacks app
  • Step 4: Now sign in with your Google account.
  • Step 5: From My Apps, navigate to Play Store and click to open.
  • Step 6: Type ‘Mullvad’ on the Play Store search bar and click the Install button.
  • Step 7: Once the installation process has completed, go to My Apps, and look for the Mullvad VPN app.
  • Step 8: Launch the app
  • Step 9: Sign in, pick a server, and click to establish your Mullvad VPN connection.

And that’s it! You are now browsing securely.
